My Cloth Diaper System

Cloth diapers in the first two months- I am often asked by new mothers which cloth diapers I used on my baby when he was a newborn. I used a popular combination of diapers that many parents choose. Chinese prefolds and Kissaluvs fitted cloth diapers were my favorite. My favorite covers were newborn Proraps. Two dozen infant Chinese prefolds and one dozen Kissaluvs plus six covers did the job. The Kissaluvs diapers fit my baby well. I liked the snapped down front to allow the umbilical stump to heal. The Proraps covers have a dip in the bellybutton area too. The Chinese prefolds worked well too. I would just fold down the front enough to expose the bellybutton area. The Kissaluvs fit a tiny newborn perfectly. My second baby was 6 lbs 11 oz and they did not seem too big on him. They are very stretchy so they grow with your baby. My baby happened to grow very fast so the cloth diapers he had were outgrown when he was eight weeks old. That is unusual though. Most babies will get four or more months out of the infant prefolds and three with the Kissaluvs.
Cloth diapers in month three to six- My little baby was 15 lbs at nine weeks old with a very big waist and chubby thighs. I switched him into regular size Chinese prefolds with small (and soon medium) Bumpy covers. Stacinator wool covers worked great as well and allow the skin to breath. Proraps all in ones worked well at holding in messes. I was enjoying the super quick diaper changes with the Proraps diapers. My husband and mom preferred using them too.
Cloth diapers six + months- I like trying different cloth diapers on my kids so I can see the advantages and disadvantages of each kind. If your baby is the type to squirm all over during diaper changes than all in one cloth diapers are a blessing. I like the Proraps diapers and the Bumkins all in ones. Bumkins all in ones diapers do not hold in breastfed baby poop very well but since my baby went every four days I could use them on "no poop days". I also like any fitted diapers with a Bumpy cover. Bumpy covers cover most diapers very well without having any fabric peek out. Bumpy wool covers fit well too and of course let the skin breath. I like using Chinese prefolds in a Bumkins cover. I like the pocket inside the front of the cover to tuck the prefold diaper into. They have a nice trim fit too and a vent in back to allow air to circulate into the cloth diaper area. I recently started using Under the Nile organic fitted diapers and the organic prefolds. I just love the softness of the organic fabric and they both keep their softness and good looks wash after wash. I also love

This is just a quick rundown of which cloth diapers have worked best for my baby. Everyone has a cloth diaper method that works best for them. Experiment and have fun.
