Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is something that most babies have to deal with from time to time. Babies who wear cloth diapers typically have less instances of rash outbreaks however rashes can still occur for many different reasons.

Causes of Diaper rash

	Wet diapers- either feces or urine.
	Sensitivities- to certain foods.
	Chemical- irritants in disposable diapers and wipes.
	Allergy- to laundry detergent.
	Heat- If the diaper area gets too hot a rash may occur.
	Yeast- A yeast type diaper rash shall be discussed under a separate topic.

Preventing Diaper Rash

	Change baby frequently, every two hours at least. (Here is where you will save plenty using cloth diapers). Babies should not sit in wet diapers for long periods of time. The urine breaks down and forms ammonia which is very irritating to baby's delicate skin.
	Use a good barrier cream such as Weleda Calendula Cream or Burt's Bees Skin Cream. Note: Some store bought creams can stain cloth diapers.
	Use wool covers over the cloth diapers. Wool is completely breathable keeping baby cooler.
	Air out baby's bottom. Let baby go bottomless for a few hours per day.
	Wash cloth diapers in a perfume free detergent (natural detergents are best). Make sure diapers are thoroughly rinsed.
	Wash baby in between diaper changes with water and pat dry.

Treating Diaper Rash

Same as above except use a rash treatment cream such as Burt's Bees Diaper Cream or Weleda Calendula Ointment.
